Aerospace

The environment of space involves harsh conditions with extremes of temperature, acceleration, and radiation. Structures made to be launched into space require a level of robustness that is constantly pushing the boundaries of possibility in science and technology.

IFOS fiber-optic interrogators and fiber-optic gyroscopes are made to withstand the harsh environment of space and are used for structural health monitoring, prognostics, nondestructive testing and evaluation (NDT and NDE), and other applications requiring access to difficult areas, electromagnetic interference immunity, low size, low weight, and power packaging.

Our aerospace clients set rigorous specifications, which we consistently meet for reliability, accuracy, and performance in harsh environments. Collaborating closely with NASA and other leading technology innovators, we develop pioneering technology solutions that yield robust optical sensing system products for space and aviation applications. These technology platforms and resulting products, designed for space missions and flight with major primes, offer reduced size, weight, power, and costs. They enable condition-based health and usage monitoring of payloads and structures by measuring critical parameters such as static and dynamic strain, temperature, angular rate, and more. These capabilities support control, diagnostics, and prognostics of critical assets in extreme environments.

Our advanced optical sensing technology platforms are offered as end-to-end solutions by our sister company, Opterro.
