Energy, Manufacturing, & Infrastructure
IFOS optical fiber and photonic sensing systems measure temperature, static load, dynamic strain, and acoustic emission monitoring. These systems are vital for the nondestructive testing and evaluation (NDT and NDE) of critical infrastructural assets in energy applications including boreholes, directional drilling, wind turbines, nuclear plants, smart grid, high-voltage cables, and oil and gas.
Leveraging our optical sensing expertise in environments involving high radiation, and extreme temperatures and pressures, IFOS has developed an advanced photonic sensing platform that can be adapted for use in nuclear and other power plants to replace labor-intensive inspections with real-time automated online monitoring.
IFOS intends to further develop and commercialize through our sister company Opterro the solution for applications requiring health and usage monitoring, leading to advanced prognostics of critical assets that uses both physics-based and artificial intelligence methodologies. Our applications-optimized solutions result in reduced installation, operation, and maintenance costs.

Manufacturing & Industrial
In a wide range of manufacturing industries, continuous in-line and batch production processes depend on industrial control systems based on real-time sensing and monitoring of diverse physical and chemical parameters. Temperature, strain, pressure, force, level, speed, flow, concentration, acceleration, gas composition, and more measurands must be sensed reliably, accurately, precisely, repeatedly, and continuously in real-time, including in harsh environments.
IFOS and our sister company Opterro have a track record of serving governmental agencies and customers in a variety of industries where advanced monitoring, condition-based maintenance, and control are critical to the safe and reliable operation of equipment, plant, and infrastructure assets.

Transportation
Intelligent transportation that is safe relies on information and communication technologies applied to road, rail, air, and maritime infrastructure including vehicles, traffic management, mobility management, and interchanges.
Transport infrastructure will increasingly rely on scalable distributed sensing systems that can operate over long distances, reliably, repeatedly, and continuously in any weather condition. IFOS sensing technology can be applied to aircraft structural integrity, navigation, EV battery monitoring, as well as rail structural health monitoring and traffic monitoring through existing fiber-optic infrastructure, in addition to many other applications on land, air, and sea.

Structural Health Monitoring
Structural health monitoring (SHM) relies on sensing systems that can continuously and reliably measure elements of load, strain, vibration, temperature, humidity, pressure, and corrosion affecting the condition and health of diverse structures from bridges and buildings to pipelines and turbines.
Actively monitoring various key parameters can yield predictions for intelligent condition-based maintenance (CBM) to inform schedules to ensure safety. IFOS’s sister company Opterro offers end-to-end solutions for a wide range of SHM applications in equipment, plant, and infrastructure assets.
