The environment of space involves harsh conditions with extremes of temperature, acceleration and radiation. Structures made to be launched into space and travel across space and time require a level of robustness that is constantly riding the boundaries of science and technology. IFOS fiber optic interrogators and fiber optic gyroscopes are made to withstand the harsh environment of space and are used for structural health monitoring, prognostics, NDT and other applications requiring access to difficult areas, electromagnetic interference immunity, low size, weight and power packaging.
- Using IFOS I*Sense™ 48K for:
- static and dynamic measurement of strain from pico-strains to explosions at 6 kHz
- temperature measurements to 1000°C
- Using IFOS I*Sense™ 48K-MS-HC
- Very high count number of FBGs to 1, 000+
- Multiple band S, C, L, U
- Fully autoswitching between sources and banks of fiber
- Using IFOS I*Sense™ HS48M for:
- ultra-high speed dynamic strain and combined vibration, acoustic and ultrasonic measurements to 3 MHz in NDE, structural analysis and HUM, SHM and prognostic CBM in composite and metal structures in aerospace components and systems
- acoustic emission measurements for failure analysis of components leading to prognostics on life expectancy
- using IFOS G*Sense™ FOG for line of sight control on antenna pedestals and in space vehicles and satellites
